Employment practices

ADRA serves our brothers and sisters in over 130 countries, regardless of age, ethnicity, politics or religion.

Hiring practices

Because employment and immigration laws differ from country to country, most employees must be citizens or permanent residents of the country in which ADRA offices are located. ADRA's central office is located in Silver Spring, Maryland, USA, and assists the network in its international work. The selection of the most qualified candidate and the conclusion of specific employment contracts are the responsibilities of each ADRA office.

Equal opportunities

At ADRA, we are committed to equal employment opportunity for all. ADRA does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, age, national origin, marital status, handicap or disability in its hiring and employment practices. ADRA employees who are hired but who are not members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church are required to accept the Seventh-day Adventist philosophy of humanitarian service and to practice a lifestyle consistent with ADRA's Seventh-day Adventist policies and beliefs.

International expatriates

For a limited number of senior management and technical positions, we employ people from outside the specific country of operation, whom we call «international expatriates». Employment opportunities for international expatriates are classified as contract and trainee positions. ADRA's local offices may also accept people who wish to offer voluntary services in specialized fields, but positions held by international expatriates generally require a Master's degree or equivalent. In addition to fluency in English, knowledge of French, Spanish or other languages is often required, and always preferred, together with three to five years' experience in international development.
